Design Themes in Los Angeles
We’ve been busy! A collection of five LA projects shown here gives an idea of what we’ve been up to, and what design themes are currently driving our work. Here’s looking forward to us hearing from you!
Courtyard Living. Woven rope lounge chairs circle a carved stone fire bowl on a terrace of reclaimed cobbles, beneath the terracotta-edged eave of a white stucco studio, our ADU project on Lilian Way. Black steel French doors fold back to an oak-paneled sitting room and an arched, tiled niche, while string lights, a hedge of creeping fig, and a teak dining table under a market umbrella carry the room out into the garden.
Soft Curves. In the Lilian Way ADU, a curved bouclé sofa and a mid-century chair in cream tweed sit on a hand-knotted rug, with a walnut side table and arched mirror leading toward the wet bar beyond.
Material Warmth. In our Palisades rebuild, a coffered timber ceiling sits over a walnut-paneled chimney breast and a deep Emperador marble surround and hearth. Brass sconces with linen shades flank the artwork, and tall steel windows open to a green hedge on either side.
Light Paneling. At our project in Beverly Grove, cream-painted paneling and a mirrored wall of arched panels bounce garden light around the room. A tiered plaster chandelier hangs over a long, rustic oak table with chocolate velvet barrel chairs, and black iron candle sconces line the walls.
Elegant Neutrals. The same Beverly Grove dining room in a deeper greige, with glass-front walnut cabinets on either side of the arched window. A pair of pleated brass pendants replaces the chandelier, and aubergine velvet chairs sit on a woven jute rug.
Object Display. In the primary bedroom of our Palisades rebuild, a cross-cut travertine fireplace and a long built-in bench share one raised stone plinth. Plaster niches hold floating oak shelves, and a run of walnut bookcases wraps the corner.
Secluded Bedrooms. For another ADU project in Lafayette Square, deep chocolate walls wrap the primary suite in quiet warmth, punctuated by a scalloped burgundy velvet headboard and a hand-forged brass sconce. Botanical-print bedding in muted brown and rose plays against pinstripe linen shams, while tall windows frame the garden's greenery beyond floor-length linen drapery.
Tailored Built-Ins. In the Lafayette Square breakfast nook, a curved olive-green banquette wraps a fluted walnut table on a brass pedestal base, set beneath a milk-glass globe pendant. A still-life oil painting anchors the corner, its warm palette echoed in a loose arrangement of wattle branches.
Integrated Archways. In a Windsor Village renovation, an arched threshold frames a freestanding soaking tub with a brushed-brass floor-mounted filler, set against white subway tile and a herringbone terracotta floor.
Accessory Entertaining. At the Lilian Way ADU, an arched niche clad in hand-glazed ivory tile houses a brass gooseneck faucet and integrated cooktop, framed by fluted oak cabinetry and a pair of walnut-legged chairs.
Kitchen to Garden. In Lafayette Square, steel-and-glass French doors swing open to dissolve the boundary between kitchen and garden, framed by a hand-hammered copper vase filled with willow branches. Beyond, the breakfast nook and kitchen island come into view.
Dining Alfresco. Outside the Lilian Way ADU, a teak dining table dressed with taper candles and fresh herbs sits beneath a market umbrella, framed by a stucco façade, olive trees, and views back into the living room.
Bright Kitchens. In the Beverly Grove kitchen, rift-cut white oak cabinetry with brass knobs runs beneath a wall of marble and a trio of garden windows. A plaster hood anchors the range, and a framed opening leads through to a curtained breakfast room.
Zellige and Brass. In the Lilian Way bath, an oval brass mirror and aged-brass fittings warm a Zellige-tiled shower and honed stone vanity, finished with white-oak millwork and fresh-cut tulips.
Expansive Stone. In the Palisades rebuild kitchen, Calacatta Monet marble runs up the full backsplash and wraps the hood, between open walnut shelves. Three looped globe pendants hang over a walnut island with four black counter stools, and an arched opening leads to the dining nook.
Patterned Cement. In the Windsor Village guest bath, patterned cement tile in blush and charcoal rises behind an espresso-stained vanity, warmed by an aged-brass pivot mirror and gooseneck faucet. A herringbone brick floor carries through from the adjoining primary suite.
Spaces for Reflection. In the Palisades rebuild family room, a wall of studded oak bookshelves faces a fireplace in boldly veined white marble under heavy timber beams. Patterned curtains frame the windows, and a floor-to-ceiling slider opens the room to the garden.
Leather and Amber. At Windsor Village, a channel-tufted leather banquette wraps a walnut pedestal table beneath an amber glass chandelier. Full-height built-ins in charcoal millwork display books and ceramics, while a woven basket and rush-seated chairs add texture underfoot.
Dark Marble Vanity. In the Palisades rebuild primary bath, a floating makeup vanity in dark marble sits beneath a paneled mirror wall and a pair of beaded glass pendants. A leaded-glass screen separates the vanity from the shower.
Sage Double Vanity. In the Lafayette Square primary bath, a double vanity in soft sage millwork is topped in honed white marble, lit by brass and milk-glass sconces. Beyond a low tiled partition, a glass-enclosed shower pairs a brushed-nickel rain head with a marble-shelved niche, and a deep soaking tub sits around the corner.
Vaulted Retreat. Under a vaulted ceiling in the Palisades rebuild, an oak-paneled gable wall frames steel doors out to the balcony and the treetops. Lit shelving fills the corner beside the fireplace, and a patterned terracotta rug runs beneath the upholstered bed.
Marble Range Wall. In Beverly Grove, a full-height marble backsplash rises behind a professional range and gooseneck brass faucet. The oak island seats a row of upholstered counter stools, and an arched doorway beyond opens to the living spaces.
Terracotta Accents. In a family bath at the Palisades rebuild, cream 2×8 wall tile is scattered with small terracotta squares above a terracotta floor in a woven pattern. A turned-leg oak vanity with an open shelf sits below a mirror set flush into the tile, between round sconces.
Sage and Brass. In the Lafayette Square kitchen, soft sage shaker cabinetry lines the room, its brass hardware warming a run of veined marble counters. A pair of woven counter stools pulls up to the island, while open shelving displays small still lifes, and a paneled sink alcove is dressed in linen café curtains.
Navy and Hand-Painted Tile. In the Windsor Village kitchen, navy shaker cabinetry and brass pulls surround an island, with a plastered hood and hand-painted tile backsplash anchoring the range. Glass-front uppers display glassware above a farmhouse sink, while a pair of plaster cone pendants and a vintage-inspired runner ground the space in warmth.
Luxury Baths. In the Palisades rebuild, a black cast iron tub with an exposed floor-mounted filler sits under a long steel window. Calacatta marble runs up the wainscot and around the mirrors, over a floating walnut vanity lit by tall brass sconces.
Unified Palettes. At Windsor Village, a wide plaster arch frames the navy kitchen beyond, flanked by framed textile art and alabaster wall sconces — a quiet transition from the home's darker living spaces into the brighter, tiled heart of the house.
